a mass spectrometry ~omics platform for your research

Welcome to EdinOmics...

a core mass spectrometry facility

using advanced analytical techniques

for bespoke -omics analyses.

About Us

Edinomics,  situated in SynthSys - Synthetic and Systems Biology at the University of Edinburgh, contains state-of-the-art equipment for high-end quantitative and qualitative proteomics and metabolomics research.

The established proteomics facility uses a variety of techniques to extract and clean up the samples prior to running them on a high resolution QExactive Orbitrap mass spectrometer (ThermoScientific) which is used to compare sample groups containing complex protein mixtures under different conditions and/or time points to probe underlying mechanisms.

The newly established metabolomics facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art Agilent Ion Mobility Quadrupole Time of Flight (IM-QTOF) mass spectrometer (MS) with interchangeable in-line chromatographic separation by Ultra high Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC), Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC) and Gas Chromatography (GC). It also has an Agilent GC-QTOF with a dedicated in-line liquid handling and sample prep MultiPurpose Sampler (MPS) (GERSTEL). It be used to analyse complex metabolite mixtures for both targeted and untargeted analyses.

General sample prep (including qPCR plate preps) can also be carried out using the facilities Tecan Evo-II liquid handling robotics.

We work closely with academics both within and external to the university on both a collaborative and service basis. Ultimately, we are a platform for carrying out and developing your research.
